Info for Caregivers
Patient Medical Transportation Information
Area Wide Transport provides 24/7 support for caregivers with patient medical transportation services. All of our vehicles are vans equipped for this type of transport. This means ease of getting into and out of our vehicles for your patients. It also means comfort to and from appointments every time your patients ride with us. Whenever you need non-emergency patient medical transportation, our team can help. We do not provide emergency or stretcher transport. Riders can find out more here.Rates & Insurance
Private rates are based on mileage and type of service. This includes both wheelchair transportation (wheelchair not provided) or ambulatory. Certain types of insurance plans will pay for these services, but they vary greatly depending on insurer, plan or coverage type, and must be pre-authorized though a transportation broker, Care Manager, or Adjuster. Our trained office personnel can assist you in making the determination if an insurance option is available for your patient’s transportation. We answer our office phone line 24 hours a day. However, we typically need 24-48 hours advance notice to book a ride for patients.
Who Can Ride with My Patient?
- Family & Caregivers — We encourage family members or caregivers to ride along for the comfort of your patient. They may ride along free of charge.
- Service Pets — As defined by Michigan law, service pets are allowed to ride along in approved carriers. We work with patients to make sure their service pets can ride along with them as needed to help give them peace of mind on the way to their appointments.
- Children — Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We also require child carriers/booster seats as needed according to state law. We do not provide these seats, however, so they must be provided by the patient when bringing along children young enough to fall within these requirements.
